Welcome to one of the largest free nautical music and song festivals anywhere!

This year we currently have 66 groups from all over the UK as well as from Brittany, Holland, Spain, Canada and Ireland who will each perform their unique take on sea songs and shanties from over 20 very different venues throughout the town. From cosy pubs to professionally engineered main stages, street corners to parish churches we have them all!

Falmouth has a proud and very long history as a first safe port of call for deep water sailing ships with their weary crews often having been at sea for many months. It was here that they filled our waterside alehouses with their songs and yarns and it is here that those shanties and stories are kept alive to this day. Many of the pubs and clubs that refreshed those Cape Horners and Clippermen remain. If you listen very carefully as you walk along our seventeenth century quays you can still hear them singing!

We sincerely hope you can enjoy as much of our festival as possible. With the now famous Breton Bash starting at 1pm on the Friday on The Skinners Stage, to the fabulous massed singers closing finale on Sunday afternoon, we are confident that you will have a memorable weekend.

We look forward to seeing you!

St. Anthony Boat Hire

We have diesel launches suitable for larger families or for fishing further out in Falmouth Bay, and outboard motorboats better for the beautiful upper reaches or for lazing in one of the coves.

Sailors will enjoy our Drascombe Longboat cruisers, Wayfarers, Lasers and the Toppers so popular with teenagers.

Single and double kayaks, as well as rowing boats, are available from St. Anthony and enable access at high water to over a mile of  gorgeous unspoilt river leading to the head of Gillan Creek, and can also be used on the Helford in fair weather.

Our boats have full safety equipment and lifejackets. Instruction is given on the motorboats; only competent sailors may take the sailing boats, though sailing tuition is available (see below).

From novice to sailor, from family to fisherman, whether you hire for a couple of hours or a full week, you will be enchanted by the magic of the river.

As Ratty said... 'There is nothing, absolutely nothing half so much worth doing as just messing about in boats
